Roadie XL Black FRN, Satin design by Sal Glesser, founder of Spyderco. Classic pen knife made of excellent Böhler M398 steel and FRN composite handle. Ultralight, easy to carry, it will easily fit into any luggage or pocket. Due to its notch joint design and two-handed opening, allowed in many countries with restrictions on carrying knives on your person.
M398 Microclean® – martensitic high-performance chrome steel, produced by powder metallurgy. Due to its alloy concept, it has extremely high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance. Due to its high wear resistance, it adequately retains the shape of the edge, so that the blade remains sharp for a very long time (requiring minimal maintenance). Another of the advantages is resistance to the formation of “wire” during sharpening. The steel has a high chromium content of 20.0% (Cr) and carbon content of 2.7% (C) and vanadium 7.2% (V) with molybdenum 1.0% (Mo), tungsten 0.7% (W). Designed to provide better strength compared to M390, launched in 2019. M398 contains more carbon and vanadium, making it a very hard 60-62 HRC steel. Manufactured by Böhler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
Notch Joint – a non-blocking mechanism used in folders. It uses spring pressure on a flat notch on the back of the Blade to hold the blade open during use. Force is required to fold the knife. TheSlip-Joint holds the blade in both the folded and unfolded positions.
Blade – Sheepsfoot type blade, smooth Plain, brought out with a Full Flat Grind. In the front part on both sides, round recess in the steel for comfortable opening. Notched thumb rest (upper jimping) on the back of the blade and Finger Choil (index finger undercut between the Handle and the cutting edge) make it easier to control the knife.
Handle – full-length sheaths made of FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon), fiberglass-reinforced nylon. A lightweight clip with right/left attachment allows you to carry the knife in tip-up position.
